No power resides within ourselves, but we can be empowered by the hope we have in the Lord. It will give us the strength to persevere. Our hope engages Him on our behalf. But where is the source of this illustrious hope that we all need? It is found in the first power point of Psalm 33: “For the Lord’s Word is true; all His works are trustworthy.” (Ps. 33:4)
We know His word is true, despite what we see. We can walk by faith, not by sight. His Word we can count on. “Your Word, Lord, stands forever; it is firm as the heavens.” (Ps. 119:89) We can also hope in it: “Remember Your Word to your servant, by which You give me hope.” (Ps. 119:49) His Word gives us hope. Sacred Scripture is the source of abiding hope, because God’s Word is the truth that we can hang onto. Find a Word and plant it in your heart. Arising hope will make it grow.
“…in Your Holy Name we trust.” (Ps. 33:21), is the second power point in this psalm. We are taught to pray in the name of Jesus for a reason. There is power in that name. “…at the name of Jesus every knee shall bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” (Phil. 2:10) His disciples went about preaching, baptizing, healing, and delivering in the name of Jesus, as portrayed in Acts. The power of His name that grew the early church continues today.
How do we gain this hope to navigate our lives? Look to the power points in Psalm 33 for guidance. Know that the Lord’s Word is true. Put your trust in His Holy Name. Amen.
