Promises of Waiting - Karen Pourbabaee
“I waited, I waited for the Lord; who bent down and heard my cry.” Psalm 40:1 NAB
Can you hear the exasperation in those words, “I waited, I waited…”? King David was letting us know of his extended waiting period. But the unfolding of his Psalm 40 is filled with gratitude. His praise of gratefulness reveals the promises to those who wait on the Lord, to those who don’t give up, but wait, and wait.
1. God bends down and hears our prayers. (vs.2) “Because He bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I have breath.” (Ps. 116:2 LBCE)
2. God rescues us from the pit of destruction and muddy swamps. (vs. 3) “But You brought up my life from the pit, O Lord, my God.” (Jonah 2:7)
3. God steadies our steps and puts our feet on a rock. (vs.3) “Then you may securely go your way; your foot will never stumble.” (Prov. 3:23)
4. God puts a new song in our mouths. (vs.4) Sing to the Lord a new song for He has done marvelous deeds.” (Ps. 98:1)
5. God performs wondrous deeds. (vs.6) “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wonderful deeds.” (Ps. 72:18)
6. God performs loyal deliverance. (vs. vs.11) “God is to us a God of deliverances.” (Ps. 106:20 NAS)
7. God does not withhold His compassion and enduring kindness. (vs.12) “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.” (Ps. 103:8 NAS)
8. God graciously rescues us. (vs. 14) “Because he loves me, I will rescue him.” (Ps. 91:14 LBCE)
9. God keeps us in mind. (vs.18) “How precious it is, Lord to realize that You are thinking about me constantly!” (Ps. 139:17 LBCE)
10. God helps us when we trust in Him. (vs.18) “I trusted in Him, and He helped me.” (Ps.28:7 LBCE)
