Our Lavish Creator - Marlene Custer
King David proclaimed, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands,” (Psalm 19:1 NIV).
A quick check of the internet gave me staggering information on God’s creativeness. A couple of thousand land animals would have been astounding. But no, He chose to lavish upon us more than one and a half million different land creatures, and more than ten thousand different species of birds.
Every time I walk on a beach I am amazed at the number of different kinds of shells. A thousand different kinds would have been amazing, but our lavish Creator embellished the seashores with over 100,000 different varieties. No wonder the Psalmist proclaims, “There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small,” (Psalm 104:25 NIV).
Looking beyond our earth there are galaxies of stars—can you comprehend 200 billion trillion? I can’t! I think we will be busy in eternity.
I declare with the Psalmist, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him…” (Psalm 8:3-4 NIV). Yet, He loves us so much He gave His Son to redeem us. The Apostle John follows up by exclaiming, “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God,” (1John 3:1 NIV).
How can we ignore so great a creative Redeemer? Our God does so much more than provide for our needs; He lavishes us with His love, and His grace!
“O, God, I love Your amazing creation; but I thank you most of all for Your lavish love and grace provided through your Son, Jesus. Amen.”
