Our Appointment – Jennifer Woodley
“You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last.” John 15:16 (NRSV)
We are each chosen by the Almighty Creator. He saw you and me and then selected us to do a particular task that would bear good fruit and have lasting influence. When God reveals what He has appointed us to do, don’t start looking somewhere else. Jonah did that. Know that this is indeed your task and not intended for another. Instead, step boldly into the calling, trust His judgement; trust His provision.
We can have a moan to God if we want. Jonah did that. But don’t expect to change God’s mind. Jonah couldn’t. Know that God will have His way, so cease struggling, for God is wiser than us. Remember that excuses will eventually sound feeble as we listen quietly to the assurances of God.
Instead, with anticipation and expectancy we can step into the appointment God has made for us. This is the appointment that will bring blessing to both our lives and others. We are called to be an influence, not just cope with the day to day activities of life. This is the blessed life - being the lasting influence that God has called us to be.
Let’s give ourselves fully to the task he has chosen and in doing so we will be showing others the grace of God and His abundantly steadfast love. Even Jonah did that.
