Obeying The Voice Of God’s Word Robert Schaetzle
“Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word!” Psalm 103:20 ESV
I feel blessed to have laid up God’s word in my heart over the years. There have been many occasions I felt the Spirit of the Lord knocking at my heart when circumstances before me were challenging. He always brings that special truth for the moment that concerns me and bids me to follow.
Learning to hear and obey the voice of His Word has often brought His ‘way of escape’ from despair or doubt. In my many years involved in administrative and financial responsibilities at work, our Lord revealed just how He would equip me for the task at hand; especially with regard to not becoming anxious over my responsibilities.
Today, in the work environment, one might feel threatened because of speech limitations and restrictions which cause management and employees to be hesitant or fearful of being labeled ‘politically incorrect’ or ‘discriminatory’. Before retirement, I was prompted by God to remind our employees of our nation’s ‘National Day of Prayer on the first Thursday of May each year and that I should remind them during one of our employee ‘stand-up’ sessions. I brought the proposal before my immediate supervisor. He sent it to our manager who replied in so many words; “No! You might be offending someone.”
The next year, I again felt God’s Spirit and Word prompting me to do the same. I prayed much the night before, and the next day I felt I needed to obey God more than ‘man.’ The result was so positive that many came to my desk and thanked me, along with some asking for prayer for family members.
Father, give us bold courage to obey the Voice of your Word, and not fear the flesh.
