Look Inside First – Jane H. YoungI saw an old house while traveling the other day and I thought, ‘That house looks pretty shabby outside, but you know it could be absolutely beautiful on the inside’. It can be the same with people; they may be unkempt in appearance, but their heart may be filled with God’s love, wisdom, and knowledge. Our problem is we judge people by the way they look, and don’t take the time to even try and get acquainted with them, let alone see their hearts. We probably miss out on a lot of blessings by pre-judging people. “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment," the Bible says in John 7:24 NASB. God truly knows what a person is like on the inside. He doesn’t judge us from outward appearance. He is mostly concerned with what’s in our hearts. How often do we ignore those at work, church, or in our neighborhood just because of the way they look, or the way they dress? We’ve already formed an opinion without even trying to get to know that person. None of us would want to have judgment passed on us without a chance to defend ourselves. Remember to “Treat others the same way you want them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them,” Luke 6:31-32 NASB. There are a lot of hurting people that have been ignored in life, just because of their appearance. Just think about how awful that really is. We’re better than that. Let’s change things by making it a priority to treat everyone with a God kind of love. Prayer: Thank you Father, you don’t pass by us and keep going according to our position in this life. You take the time to stop and get to know us and who we really are. Lord, help me to take time to get to know people and not look at them with a preconceived idea of who I think they are.
