Look From Where You Are – Jane H. Young
“The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,” (Genesis 13:14 NASB).
Abram’s nephew Lot had just taken all the best land for himself, leaving Abram with the dried up barren land. Then the Lord told Abram to “look from the place where you are.” At this point, I feel sure Abram was not thrilled with what he saw, but he would trust the Lord going forward.
Look from where you are right now — that’s the spot where everything going forward begins. Do you have a dream, maybe a goal you’ve set for yourself? Or do you feel that God is asking something of you? What will your first step be looking ahead?
Don’t look back, look from where you are this very moment. We all know what looking back can do. Look at Lot’s wife. Instead of looking forward to what could be, she turned and looked back at what had been, and that was an unwise decision.
Life does not operate by remote control – you have to get up and change it. Run from where you were, you have a new starting point now — Go!! The past is over, the future is unknown. Today is what you have. This is your time, make the most of it.
“For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.” (Jeremiah 29:11-12 NASB)
Prayer: Lord I want to move forward and let go of all the hurt and disappointments in the past. Give me the strength and wisdom to start this day right where I am and not look back.
