Let God Light The Match – Toni M. Babcock
“Who among you fears the LORD and listens to his servant? Who among you walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD; let him lean on his God.” (Isaiah 50:10 CSB)
This gracious appeal is given to believers who, in some capacity, are still battling spiritual darkness. God knows there are those who revere Him and seek to obey His voice but who, through infirmity of mind or a lapse of faith have their eyes shut. Spiritual light is all around them, but looking inwardly at their own wretchedness, they question why they’re still in the dark.
Thankfully, Jesus understands. He knows what it’s like to feel forsaken, having been abandoned and nailed to a cross. Christ, speaking through the pen of the prophet Isaiah said “I gave my back to those who beat me, and my cheeks to those who tore out my beard. I did not hide my face from scorn and spitting,” (Isaiah 50:6 CSB).
Thankfully, because He became like us in our weakness, He knows how to deliver us in our weakness, too. Yes, Jesus can “sustain the weary with a word” (Isaiah 50:4 CSB). There can be no better counselor than that.
If you have come to Christ for salvation, but still find yourself in a quagmire of doubt regarding your safe standing before God, give yourself the luxury of leaning on Jesus, then let God light the match that produces spiritual illumination. Seek a trusted Christian to talk to and pray with if you feel that may also be of help.
A settled faith is your blood-bought gift from the Savior. Your task is to bring your burden to the Lord and trust Him to whatever extent He’s enabled you. Jesus will take care of the rest, because Jesus takes care of His own.
