Just As I Am - Jane H. Young
I grew up going to the Baptist Church, and every Sunday when the preacher was finished with his sermon, he would give everyone a chance to come forward and ask Jesus into their lives. I was 8 when I made that walk to the front of the church to ask Jesus to live in my heart. That old hymnal “Just As I Am” was being sung as I went forward.
I knew God was pulling at my heart. God wanted me to come to Him that morning – that very hour, just as I was. He didn’t say ‘I am waiting for you to make changes and when you are ready come’. No, He was waiting for me with open arms that morning. All I had to do was come to Him.
Maybe you’re not 8, maybe you’re eighty-eight or somewhere in between. Give yourself to God just like you are, then He can start a change in you that will be amazing. We’re all cracked pots in one way or the other that needs remolding, but we have to take that first step. He’ll be there to welcome us with open arms. It’s that old rival the devil who we let keep us away. Our coward heart fears giving up its toys, its friends and our selfish lifestyles. But God has a much better plan for us.
“For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 NASB
Stop worrying so much about what you're not and give God what you are. If we wait until we are perfect to come to God—we never will. What are you waiting for?
Prayer: God I come to you today just as I am, asking you to forgive me. I want you to come into my heart and be my guiding light for the rest of my days.
