True joy transcends the rolling waves of circumstance. Joy comes not from externals, but a consistent relationship with Jesus Christ. When our lives are centred on Him, Jesus will help us walk through difficulties without sinking into debilitating lows and manage prosperity without escalating into deceptive highs. The joy of living with Christ keeps us on a constant even-keel, despite our circumstances.
For those of us who are weary and tired, we need the joy that is found in staying close to Christ. Our Saviour said in John 15:11 that if we keep His commandments and abide in His love, His joy would fill us and move us onwards to do whatever we are called to. Jesus is committed to those who are committed to Him.
This is the joy that keeps us going despite struggles and pain. This is not a fleeting 'put on my happy face' type of joy. His is a deep joy that fills our inner being and remains even when life looks bleak. Is this what we are in need of right now? Be encouraged because Christ liberally gives us the joy that the world can neither offer us, nor take away.
'Father, I have looked around and can't find lasting joy in what the world offers. Only your joy keeps me going. I do not pray for an easy life, but that your joy would enable me to bear whatever lays ahead.'
