Jesus Leads Us To Go Beyond - Robert Schaetzle
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me,” (2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV).
Unlike the sojourners of ancient Israel, who were led from a cloud by day and fire by night, we who are followers of Jesus are now led from within. We have in our possession the abiding presence of God’s Holy Spirit breathed into us as we journey life’s path.
Though Christians have always lived in a world opposed to God, dedication to “Come Follow Me,” was our Lord’s ordination to his chosen twelve. Even for us today, our Lord gives us the same instruction. We too should purpose our lives so as not to be conformed or intimated by all the social fears of unbelief and turmoil around us.
Learning to take up our own cross daily is to follow the Holy Spirit’s prompting, along with His instruction to become doers of God’s Word. Such wonderful promises in His Word bring purpose and hope from above—not from emotional feelings of fear to what is happening in our world.
Being hopeful in our challenges, we receive more of God’s sufficiency promised us which is so much better than fear brought on by human reasoning, or from what is happening around the world or across town.
Father, lead us to recognize your resources provided as your sufficiency to us. We recognize our faith must go beyond our feelings. Your power will be made perfect in our weakness, AMEN.
