In Troubling Times God Remains Faithful
Lorraine Taylor
"We know that all things work together for good, for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28 NRSV)
Believers – you and I and we are personally, intricately loved by God whose holiness grabs hold of each one of us. It’s the pursuit of a divine love that orchestrates all events circumstances and challenges; inviting each one nearer to His passion.
The ‘things’ that occur can be things allowed, consequences from poor choices, and/or things that happen from other people's actions outside our control — those unexpected circumstances coming ‘out of the blue’. It could be relational conflict, trauma, mental illness, sickness, death of a loved one, changed plans, or being blindsided and unfairly attacked, lied about, or unjustly treated.
When processing the resultant emotions of doubt, fear, anxiety, or worry, recognize the necessary path of discipleship is often one of sorrow, pain, and suffering, and remind yourselves it’s the life of Christ whose love enables us to overcome when we feel stretched beyond our human capacity.
In this misery, we learn that ‘letting go’ of what ‘self’ wants—how it wants to react, or 'fix' itself is where our greatest need is. Here we can simultaneously surrender in absolute devotion to this Spirit-being-love. In relinquishing our wanting, and yielding to God’s heavenly love, we’re given the grace to receive God’s fullness and respond from His love. It’s here we’re given the Grace to release His love. When encountering adverse events, we’re invited to trust in the reigning faithfulness’ of our Father to fulfill his promise to work out his goodness from the situation even when we fail to see his hand in it.
The overcoming that is possible is when you, I, and we collectively allow God’s love to flourish as the sufficient source of his promised provision of Grace.
