In The Potters Hands - Jane H. Young
“But now, O LORD, You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8 NASB)
We’re all born a beautiful vessel formed by God's hands — then life happens. We start having cracks in our lives; some by our own making and unwise choices, some by the lifestyle we live. When shame and guilt set in, we think we’re beyond repair — that there’s no way God can do anything with us.
When a potter starts with a ball of clay, he places the ball on the potter’s wheel right in the middle. As he begins to mold the clay, he continues to add water a little at a time. This keeps the clay pliable and prevents cracking, making the potter able to make a beautiful vessel ready to be filled.
Just as the potter cannot mold the clay unless enough water is added — in the same way, we must add God’s word in our lives to be molded into His image.
Maybe you feel completely shattered instead of just being a cracked pot. Nothing is too big for our God to fix. He can take us in His hands roll us up in His love and put us on his potter’s wheel— taking our sin and shame and spinning them into a design that glorifies Him.
The beautiful song Have Thine Own Way says where we all need to be: “Have Thine own way, Lord, have Thine own way. Thou art the Potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after Thy will, While I am waiting yielded and still.” (“Have Thine Own Way” first published in 1907 - Listen Here)
Prayer: God, thank You for molding and shaping me into the person You created me to be. Cleanse my heart, Father, of everything that is not of You and use me for Your purpose.
