“But when you ask God, you must believe and not doubt. Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea, blown up and down by the wind.” James 1:6 NCVI’m studying the Apostle Luke in both of his books, Luke and Acts. One highlight is that Luke believes that Peter had a lapse of faith when he denied Jesus. The dictionary’s definition for ‘lapse of faith’ is to stop believing, or in other words, doubt something.
When I look back at my childhood or my life in general, I could have come up with a lot of reasons to doubt that there is a Savior like Jesus who loves me. For instance, my mom committed suicide, and other kids I knew picked on me constantly. Right or wrong, I’ve have often felt like everyone hates me.
I do street witnessing, and I’ve found that there are people who have turned their back on God because of an earth-shaking event. The interesting thing is, I’ve never considered rejecting Jesus despite getting mad at him over my troubles at times.
I’ve always had the attitude that I don’t deserve what I have. Maybe that is why I never rejected or doubted Jesus. Life hasn’t been easy as an adult. Although when I look at my life in retrospect, the Lord has always provided for me. I have a car and a roof over my head that I don’t deserve because I’ve made a lot of mistakes, especially financial ones.
I don’t know why I’ve had such a hard life. It would be really easy for me to doubt God if I walked by sight instead of faith, but we must preserve in the faith. Someday, when Jesus’s rule and reign is fully on display, there will be no sin or struggles. When Jesus comes back, God’s will be done on earth as it is done in heaven.
Please keep the faith and don’t doubt, simply trust in him. And if you do fall into doubt like Peter, always remember that Jesus has not left or forsaken you, he wants you to return to him just like Peter did.
