He Loves Us! - Karen Pourbabaee
“For whom the Lord loves, He disciplines.” Hebrews 12:6 NAB
It’s pretty clear—discipline is in your future, for God loves you infinitely! The Greek word for discipline in scripture means nurture. God nurtures us with His discipline, nurture encompassing the process of raising, promoting the development of, training, and upbringing. One can also say God nourishes us with His discipline. It is the food we all have need of!
Perhaps you already know the areas that God needs to rain down His love and nurturing—His discipline. He has spoken to your heart as His Word reveals: “Out of the heavens He lets you hear His voice to discipline you.” (Deuteronomy 4:36) Will you heed His voice? “My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord or loathe His reproof.” (Proverbs 3:11)
Discipline has many earthly benefits that continue into eternity. As a beloved son or daughter of God, you are entitled to these gifts on your earthly journey.
Discipline leads to happiness. “Behold, how happy is the man whom God reproves. So do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.” (Job 5:17)
Discipline produces wisdom. “Listen to counsel and accept discipline. That you may be wise the rest of your days.” (Proverbs 19:20)
Discipline brings us blessings. “Blessed is the man who Thou dost chasten, O Lord.” (Psalm 94:12)
Discipline results in godliness. “…discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.” (1 Timothy 4:7)
Discipline’s harvest is righteousness and peace. “No discipline seems pleasant, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11 NIV)
Dear Lord, thank You for Your bountiful, everlasting love! May I hear Your voice clearly and accept Your call to discipline, that I may enjoy Your divine gifts of happiness, wisdom, blessings, godliness, righteousness, and peace. Amen.
