What’s in a Name? - by Karen White Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 1 John 3 Imagine a world where there were no names. How would we identify each other, by numbers, or just “hey, you”? I don’t know about you but when we were expecting each of our children, we spent hours discussing names. I wonder if God made a list or discussed with the angels what He would name His son. He chose the name Jesus, but the Bible also lists many additional names for Jesus, most are descriptive words for Him such as King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Rose of Sharon, Prince of Peace, Emmanuel, God’s Son, Christ, Counselor, Messiah, Light of the World, Lamb of God, Alpha and Omega, Bread of Life, Anointed One, Almighty, and Savior. Each of these names for Jesus has special meanings. We also are called by a variety of names. Our children may refer to us by one name while our spouses use another. Friends may identify us in another way. Each person refers to us by a name that has meaning to them. Which name of Jesus’ has the most meaning for you? Whatever it is, I pray that you know Him as Savior and He is your Lord of all. Remember, He calls us His children, what a special name that is.
