| BEING MADE PERFECT - by Anita Lahanmi 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) - “…My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness…” The ‘free dictionary’ defines perfectionism as ‘a propensity for being displeased with anything that is not perfect or does not meet extremely high standards’. Sadly, many of us have brought this attitude of perfectionism into our relationship with God. We strive to do and be right by sheer willpower and when we fail, we think God is angry and displeased with us. Trying to be ‘perfect’ takes us back to the Do’s and Don’ts of the Old Testament. We have been delivered from the letter of the law with its rules and regulations, and are now partakers of the covenant of grace. God is not looking for a perfect performance; He is looking for a perfect heart - a heart that believes in Him and seeks to do His will. King David committed adultery and murdered an innocent man yet God testifies of Him, “I have found David…a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.” (Acts 13:22 NKJV) David dedicated his life to pleasing and honoring God and in God’s eyes that was more important than the mistakes David made along the way. God knows our frailties; if we could be perfect, Jesus would not have needed to come and save us. For it is in our imperfections that we see the glory and power of God on display. So, rather than striving to be perfect, trust God and strive to please Him. Then, God can perfect (complete) in you that which is considered imperfect. Today’s writer lives in Hertfordshire, UK.
