What does it take for God’s people to endure this chastening, this refiner’s fire, so that we might become closer to Christ and resemble His nature more?
It takes absolute surrender to the trials we are experiencing. We would prefer instant deliverance and then boast of how God has rescued us. Surrender, however, means nothing of the sort. It is getting out of the way so that God can do whatever He wants for as long as it takes. If only we understood that it is these very trials that God allows into our lives that He will use, if we are willing to surrender to them, that enables God to get the glory!
Some would have us believe that by surrendering to our trials and troubles, we are acting cowardly. Clearly those people do not know the ways of God. Admittedly, there are times when we need to stand against a situation, but we are not to confuse these times with getting out of God’s way so that He can do in us what He wants to do through us.
And it takes absolute obedience. Obedience does not require us to know why a situation is happening to us, nor does it require God to do everything according to our understanding. True obedience requires the refusal to compromise our relationship with God, regardless of our own understanding or the consequences. As a matter of faith and trust we simply obey God because He is always good and always God. Let’s keep on, keeping our hope in trials in Him.
