God, Our ‘Rewarder’ – Lakella Davenport
Know that your faithful work is not in vain. Even when men try to cheat you out of what you’ve worked so hard for, God will provide. God will bless the work of your hands just like he blessed the work of Jacob’s hands when he worked and labored for Laban for twenty years, (Genesis 31:38 KJV).
Jacob served Laban for fourteen years for Laban’s two daughters, Leah and Rachel. Jacob had intended on just marrying Rachel, the youngest, after working for Laban for seven years, but Laban was a deceitful boss. He tricked Jacob into marrying his older daughter Leah, because it was the custom to marry off the elder sister first in Laben’s culture.
Laban was also deceitful in that he changed Jacob’s wages ten times (Genesis 31:41 KJV). “And ye know, that with all my power I have served your father. And your father hath deceived me and changed my wages ten times: but God suffered him not to hurt me. If he said thus, ‘The speckled shall be thy wages’, then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, ‘The ringstraked [striped] shall be thy hire’, then bare all the cattle ringstraked. Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father and given them to me” (Genesis 31:6-9 KJV). “And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maid servants, and men servants, and camels, and asses” (Genesis 30:43 KJV).
God promises to make our way prosperous when we faithfully follow him. God was with Jacob in his work (Genesis 31:42 KJV) and God will be with us in our work, or when we’re laboring for others. God will bless the work of our hands exceedingly just like he blessed the work of Jacob’s hands. God sees our work ethic when it’s motivated by faith and love, “for without faith it is impossible to please Him.” Remember, hard work accomplished in faith is not in vain. God is a ‘rewarder’ of such who diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6 KJV).
Thank you, God, that our faith-filled work is not in vain.
