Give Thanks to the Lord! - Karen Pourbabaee
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His lovingkindness continues forever.” Psalm 136:1 LBCE
Psalm 136 is a litany of the Lord’s faithfulness, His actions toward Israel, His chosen people. They were a thankful people, noting His mighty miracles in verse 4. They extolled the Lord for His work of creation in land, sea, and sky in verses 5-9. Leading them through the desert and safely through the parting waters of the Red Sea, God also displayed His protection of them from their enemies as recalled in the ensuing verses. He saved Israel from their foes and provided them with food. They saw the Lord’s loving-kindness continue on their behalf. Won’t He also do the same for you as you trust Him? Let us thank Him now!
I thank You, Lord, for the wonders You have done in my life, for the beauty of Your creation that I enjoy. You have led me through many deserts and quenched my thirst with Your life-giving water, sometimes when I didn’t even know I was thirsty. You did not allow the flood waters of life to pull me under! I’ve always made it safely to the other side as I kept my eyes on You. How many demons have You struck down before their attack? Probably too numerous to count! But when You allow the oppression, You limit it for my good. You work all things, even evil, for my benefit. You have saved me from my enemies. Oh, how You love me and watch over me at all times. Even in my misery, You remember me and watch. I have known You are near. You have sustained me with both physical and spiritual food. I thank You, Lord, for nourishment of all kinds, and the gift of life from Your very hands. I give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, and His lovingkindness continues forever. Amen.
