Treasured Possession by Susan Barnes
Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name. "On the day when I act," says the LORD Almighty, "they will be my treasured possession." Malachi 3:16-17
These words from Malachi tell us we are special to God, his treasured possession. They reiterate Exodus 19:5: "you will be my treasured possession".
As a result of moving around, I have learnt not to hoard things but I do keep one box of treasures. It contains several things from our wedding, a few things from my childhood, special letters from friends and other sentimental items. Yet how amazing that God has treasures. And it is us! We are his treasured possessions.
Isaiah 49:15-16 tells us God has engraved us on the palms of his hands and even if it were possible for a mother to forget her child it would not be possible for God to forget us. Humanly speaking we don't forget people who are important to us. Likewise God does not forget us because we are important to him.
Do we see ourselves as God's never-forgotten, special treasures? While we may doubt, we have to remember God's Word is truth and God expects us to believe it. It is not humility keeping us from accepting God's view, rather it is the lies of the devil.
Today repeat it often, "I am his treasured possession."
