Have Mercy – by Lynn Gipson
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” – Mathew 5:7
I have, in my lifetime, been shown great mercy by God. My past was filled with pain and anger, but as I look back I can see where the Lord has always been merciful to me. There were times when I should have died, many narrow escapes, but here I am today, writing for Christ.
I did not and do not deserve this mercy, but yet I received it. Even before I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, He was taking care of me. I know that now, beyond a shadow of a doubt.
The mercy we show others comes back to us. In my life, I have always pulled for the underdog in any given situation. That's just the way I am. If someone is down and out or being abused in any way, my compassion is strong. The alcoholic on the street, the young prostitute who knows no other way to live, and even the drug addict we fear should receive our prayers for their salvation.
Merciful prayer works. There has been more than one occasion when I have prayed for someone and God reached out to that person. It is a wonder and a miracle each time it happens, but it does happen.
We must be merciful in order to receive God's mercy. We must pray for all those who cannot or will not pray for themselves. Have mercy, and you will receive mercy.
