The Power of Pleasant Words - by Denise Ferrell

“Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24 (KJV)

In a study at the Institute of HeartMath, researchers tested and proved that detangling of DNA strands could be influenced by human intention (Modulation of DNA Conformation by Heart-Focused Intention – McCraty, Atkinson, Tomasino, 2003). The HeartMath technique involved generating feelings of love and appreciation while maintaining the specific intent to bring about a change in the DNA (to wind or unwind). Experiments were conducted with a person holding three DNA samples. The participant succeeded, as instructed, to unwind two of the DNA samples to different extents and leave the third unchanged. The article explained that when individuals are in a heart-focused, loving state, they have a greater ability to alter the conformation of DNA.

In Philippians 4:8, God tells us to focus our thoughts on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. Those things that are virtuous and worthy of praise should fill our thoughts. Could it be that there is an additional purpose in this instruction from our Lord? With a heart of love and gratitude, we not only encourage and edify others, but we may also bring health to our own bodies. The study went on to say that this technique may prove beneficial to patients who did not respond well to current medical treatments. Never underestimate the power of kind words, thankful hearts and prayer.
