“And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.” (Jeremiah 18:6)

Scales fall off our eyes when the Lord desires us to see clearly. I had read the Bible many times without paying too much attention to the verse in Jerimiah 18:6 where God is telling Jerimiah that He wished He could do like the potter and refashion Israel like the potter was doing with the clay he designed. I had not paid sufficient attention to the clause “so are ye in mine hands”. We are an evil generation, just like the Israelites of old and we need the chastising of our Maker. If we repent and turn from our evil ways, the Lord will turn away His wrath from us. We need to subject our will to His will to reap the rewards of His righteousness, to make our paths straight. We must follow in the footsteps of Christ who gave us the gospels to lead us into His perfect light, out of the darkness that Satan is bent on drowning us in. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Eph. 2:10). The potter did not throw out the marred clay but moulded it anew until he achieved the desired effect. That is how our Potter reshapes us over time until He accomplishes His purpose in us. We may meet many challenges on the way, but our Potter gives us time to grow; we may even in later years thank Him for the trials that we met to bring us to a desired goal.
