Prayer for America - by Robert Schaetzle "And all the people answered and said, 'His blood be upon us and on our children.'” (Matthew 27:25 NKJV) The destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD was a result of the sin of disobedience. The people refused to obey God’s law and did not recognize the Father’s chosen One, Jesus, for the redemption of sin. Those Pharisees sought to destroy the One who the Father brought to save His chosen people, Israel . We read how Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus, but greater was His sorrow when He looked out over Jerusalem and wept for His people, Israel. Where we, the people of this fine land, stand today in our political, social, and spiritual beliefs is far from our founders' original intent in designing this Republic we call the United States of America. Like sheep, we, too, have gone astray from where our Lord would like us to be in seeking and serving one another and in honoring our Lord. Jesus admonished His apostles; "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:33 NIV) Like ancient Israel, our nation's political, business, and social behavior has deteriorated. Many of us think we don't need God’s vision and wisdom. Our "self-sufficiency" has turned us into a people of greater want. Although we are one of the wealthiest nations on Earth, we never seem satisfied. Our prayers are answered, not when we're given what we ask for, but rather when we are challenged to be what we can be. God wants us for His honor, not for self-worth. Spiritual awakening must be our uppermost need, we need to recognize that Jesus is standing at the door of our heart, knocking to come in. (Revelation 3:20) Bob serves in a Sharing & Caring Ministry at a local Rehab Center, and lives in Sunnyvale, California with his wife Yvonne, his five almost-grown children, and their families.
