True Spiritual Fitness – by Toni Babcock “For ye see your calling brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called, but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence,” (I Corinthians I:26-29 KJV). It’s incredible to think that God’s assessment of our usefulness in His kingdom has more to do with our lack of fitness, than our fitness to do anything worthy in ourselves. It’s mind blowing to think that in God’s mind, our inability becomes an asset because it makes room for His glory to shine. Humanly speaking, viewing our inability as an asset in the kingdom of God runs totally contrary to our prideful sense of importance. Yet it is when we learn to surrender ourselves to God’s working, and stop engaging the energy of the flesh, that we allow the Spirit of Christ to step in and fill us with his spiritual power. Jesus taught this principle. He told his disciples that without Him they could “do nothing”. It was only when they recognized their own inability, and tapped into His life and power that they would receive the ability to set the world on fire with the gospel – and they did.
