“[He sent] His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,” Romans 8:3. (ESV)
Has someone ever asked you the question, “Do you regret anything in your life?” Did you know God once regretted something? Genesis 6:6 says, “And the Lord regretted that He had made man on the earth.” That was right before He sent the flood to wipe out all living things—except for Noah who “found favor in His sight”, and his family. After the flood, God started over with the earth. New life bloomed, Noah and his family were fruitful and multiplied and God swore to never again destroy the earth with a flood. But sin wasn’t destroyed in the flood and again it took over on the earth. I wonder as God looks down today, does He, once again, regret making man?
The world is as evil now as ever, and surely God would regret making man again, except for one thing. “[He sent] His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,” Romans 8:3. The God-man, Jesus, grew in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man. God spoke from heaven, “This is my son, in whom I am well pleased.” Because Jesus found favor with God, He was able to become the perfect sacrifice to pay for all sin, for all time. God does not have to regret creating sinful man, because through Christ, He made a way for us to find favor again with God and to be saved—just like Noah in the ark.
