The Sin of Procrastination By Ennis Smith Procrastination is a silent killer; I would venture to say it’s one of the enemy’s most potent secret weapons. How many times have we been tempted to put off a task we know needs to be accomplished? For the unbeliever, procrastination can mean the difference between an eternity spent in Heaven with loved ones or an eternity spent in the dark loneliness of Hell.
During his earthly ministry, Jesus made many references to the importance of choosing to repent of sins, sooner rather than later. He told his disciples that even he was not privy to the time when God would punish the unbelieving populace of the world.
Mark 13:32 (ESV) says, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
Procrastination in repentance will be disastrous for many who believe they have time to indulge in the perishing, sinful pleasures of the world. The Lord teaches us to turn away from sin now, while there is still time, because the wrath of God could come at any moment. The longer people choose to ignore the call of God, the more likely they are to negate their true calling and the blessings associated with God’s call on their lives. The pleasures of eternity spent in service to the Lord will far out weight any and all earthly pleasures found in life, today.
