NO ARGUMENT HERE Stephanie M. White But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. Titus 3:9 NIV
Do you love a good argument? Are you quick to disagree simply so you can engage in a disagreement. God warns us to stay away from these senseless arguments.
Avoidance is simply staying away from such controversy. There'll be plenty of opportunities to disagree with others, but we can refrain. God tells us that it's foolish to disagree over silly things; it's futile. Nothing profitable comes from disputes. Even if we know that we are right, that does not give us a license for confrontation.
God's Word tells us to avoid quarreling (2 Timothy 2:23-25). The Word shows us who we are and how we'll behave when we agree with who we are in Christ. A child of God who knows who they are in Christ will not quarrel. If you're in favor of quarreling and debating, then you don't understand who you are in Christ. Our flesh loves a good debate, but our Spirit knows better. Avoiding these fruitless disputes is a Spiritual action. As we abide in the Word of God we'll feel the need to argue diminish. Our desire to always be “right” or have the last word will also lessen.
As a child of God we should be able to teach others regarding the Word of God. Teaching does not involve debating. God tells us to “gently instruct.” A belligerent attitude will impede knowledge.
Time is valuable; we must not waste ours with foolish debates and silly arguments. As a child of God, we can resist the temptation to argue and debate through the power of God.
