Today's Devotional
A Kingdom Principle – by Toni Babcock

Keeping a low profile is a kingdom principle the Bible returns to repeatedly to teach the importance of tamping down the vestiges of our secret pride.

The Apostle Paul reminds us "For ye see your calling brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called, but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence," (I Corinthians 1:26-29 KJV).

It’s incredible to think that God’s assessment of our usefulness in His kingdom has more to do with our lack of fitness, than our fitness to do anything worthy in ourselves – and I suppose that is the point. When we finally recognize our human inability as Christians, we will stop depending on the energy of our natural selves and allow our supernatural God to step in and fill us with his spiritual power. Jesus taught this principle when he revealed the spiritual meaning of his words in John chapter 6. He told his disciples “…the flesh profits nothing.” Only the Spirit can give life. Here lies the key to producing spiritual good.

Lord help me tamp down the vestiges of my secret pride. In my inability to achieve anything spiritually good without You, may I discover the secret power of your almighty strength.
