The Patience of Christ – by Susan Ferguson
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (Hebrews 10: 35-36 NIV)
Admittedly, I tend to shy away from praying for patience. Maybe it’s because I know that patience is perfected through trials. (James 1: 3-4) However, I realize that without patience, I’ll never be all I can be for Jesus. Through faith and patience, I will inherit the promises of God. (Hebrew 6:12)
I've learned that patience means more than staying calm in a long checkout line. To be patient is to endure difficult circumstances with fortitude. (James 5:10-11) To be patient is to bear with one another in love. (Ephesians 4:2) Patience is the willingness to wait on God to fulfill His promises in His time.
Never has anyone shown patience like Jesus. Job, Joseph, Jeremiah, and Paul, who endured immense hardship didn’t come close to the patience of Christ. Far exceeding the saints of old, Jesus’ patience was impeccable. The Bible says that love is patient. (1Corinthians 13:4) Jesus was patient with the disciples, who were sometimes unwise, self-centered, and slow to believe. His greatest example of patience was on the cross, where He demonstrated patience to perfection. As He hung on the cross, Jesus waited patiently and never spoke an angry word.
