SNOWGLOBE by Kristi Bridges

I wanted to envelope the old house in a bubble and make it a snowglobe, keeping everything exactly as it was. I thought of calling the “American Pickers” to do an episode because a digital recording would last longer than the house itself. Perhaps we could make it a museum, a historical landmark. My life was built within the lace-curtained rooms and the oil-stained garage out back. Antiques filled every tabletop and shelf, preserved carefully by my grandparents, who also wanted to keep the things that reminded them of their parents. But the house by the drive-in theatre was built to hold living families; Grandma and Grandpa had moved to a much brighter home in Heaven.
Moses’ tabernacle, decorated with exquisite hand-made art, and Solomon’s temple, with its carved pillars and gold leafing, were inspirational places where families worshiped and fellowshipped. Thousands of years later, they are gone. The legacies left by these men are the truths that God spoke through them. It is important to do whatever we do “heartily, as to the Lord” (Col. 3:23 KJV), but from all our creations and pursuits, failures and successes, what remains is God’s Word illustrated through our lives. I have a few things in my home that remind me of my grandparents, and I’ll tell their stories to the young ones in my family. The items might grow dusty, so I’m hoping to pass on the real treasure that was left to me—the life-changing wisdom and saving grace of our God.
