Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV

Real freedom can only be found in the Spirit. We cannot walk in true freedom outside of Christ.
True freedom is not being free to do whatever you want. True freedom is walking at liberty and ease in Christ. It is dependence on Christ and freedom from self. It is freedom from living in our flesh and all that it produces. It is living a life of confidence in Christ, not ourselves.

Where is the Spirit of the Lord? Jesus told us that He would send the Holy Spirit to us and the Holy Spirit would live in us (John 14:16-17). The Spirit of the Lord is in us and we walk in that Spirit when we connect with the Word of God. When we ignore the Word of God we forfeit the freedom that God provides.

When we ignore the Word of God we are prisoners of our flesh. We cannot overcome our flesh and escape its power without the Word of God. We are hopeless outside of Christ. We need Him to rescue us and He is the Word. Through the Word of God we will live a life of freedom – freedom from sin, freedom from fear, freedom from guilt, freedom from failure, and so on!
