“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (ESV) 

As a father, I can look back on a hundred mistakes, as I stumbled through adolescence. Decisions were made without considering God’s opinion. Consequences were faced, some of which I still deal with to this very day. There are some instances I wish I could have taken back, in another life.
Jesus sees it all, just as I do in my memory. In His loving kindness, He blots out my transgressions. He instructs me to go on, and sin no more. He also instructs me to teach my children, so that they might avoid the pitfalls that could have easily damned my spirit, had it not been for the Lord’s intervention. 

There are times when I lose my way; times when I simply lack the ‘know-how’ to teach my children. The Lord speaks into my heart, “Let me show you. Follow my lead and walk with me.” He prepares the way so that I might be able to show them the route of truth I neglected to take, at their age. 

My children will each lead a different path. As they grow older, my prayer is that they will not forget the lessons learned through their father’s teaching. I pray the Lord reminds them of His truth for the rest of their days.
