Our Unfathomable, Intimate God – by Dave Walker "THE WORD BECAME FLESH AND DWELT AMONG US. WE HAVE SEEN HIS GLORY" JOHN 1:14 (NIV) Jesus' divinity co-existent with His humanity is a stumbling block to many, especially in the West where reason is deified. It is a fact we cannot fathom, with our limited understanding, yet must accept by faith. Yet many instances in nature require the same discipline. If I, having never seen the metamorphosis, was told that a caterpillar and butterfly are the same creature in different forms, I'd have to take it on faith without understanding. Despite what the militant atheists say, reason is not the ultimate crucible for truth. It's possible to be sane and still believe the unfathomable. My Muslim colleagues asked, with incredulity, shaking their heads, "Are you saying God got tired, ate our food -- even went to the toilet like us?" Yet an earthly king mixing with his people, hearing their concerns, surely is more a king for that than one who sits in his palace indifferent to his subjects' suffering. Likewise a God who identifies with us, showing us His heart -- even rescues us at inestimable cost, surely is more divine than Someone watching His creation indifferently from a distance. When you open your heart to Jesus, you open it to an awesome God, whose ways are incomprehensible, yet who fully understands you because He's been here. Lord Jesus, what a mighty God You are to go to such lengths to fully understand me. Let me share these things which are so on my heart ............ (share them.)
