Can I Get a Witness? – by Denise Ferrell “For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them.” Isaiah 59:12 (KJV) As a witness, we can “testify” or “give a testimony” by describing what we have seen or heard. We testify or affirm that this information is correct.
Our sins testify against us. They tell of our wrongdoing. They reveal poor attitudes, wrong choices or misspoken words. For us to try to represent ourselves against this accuser is useless. In fact, it’s impossible for us to save ourselves from the accusations of our sins. We can’t deny them, and we can’t defy them. Our sins boldly speak the ugly truth.
However, we do have an Advocate: Jesus Christ. The book of 1 John states, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1 (KJV) An advocate is an attorney. He can present our case to God the Father (the Judge) and plead our case for us. He does not try to convince God of our innocence based on our self-worth. But when we approach the bench with the covering of His blood that He shed for us on the Cross, we can stand blameless in God’s courtroom. This is not a pardon so that we may continue to sin, but a Payment that was made so that we can go and sin no more. Denise is a Registered Nurse who resides in Alabama with her husband. She looks forward to the soon return of our Lord. Contact
