When You Suffer a Little - Karen Pourbabaee “The God of all grace who called you to His eternal glory through Christ will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little.” 1 Peter 5:10 NAS
We cannot escape the inevitability of suffering. Jesus has actually called us to it. Peter points that out: “For to this you have been called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in His footsteps.” (1 Peter 2:21) Our Christian life entails a continual conforming to the image of Christ, who suffered tremendously on earth. As we follow Him, suffering will be part of our lives on earth, too. It’s not a matter of if we suffer, but when.
Suffering is always significant. It comes our way as part of the purpose and providence of God. It is not random, but known by Him. In Psalm 23, God assures us He will be in all our valleys. He gives us Himself and suffers alongside us. His hand is in the suffering and trials, and He promises, “…all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
There are four things God desires and promises to do for us after we have suffered a little:
Restore: He repairs, rebuilds, renews, renovates, refreshes, and heals us.
Confirm: The Father validates, proves, reinforces, encourages, and supports us. Strengthen: God increases our capacity to endure and gives us power to accomplish something by rejuvenating, encouraging, and fortifying us in the battle.
Establish: The Lord will settle, make stable, and confirm us. In whatever battle, remember His Words. You are on a path to be restored, confirmed, strengthened, and established. Don’t give up until His promises are yours!
