Live by Faith, Not Feelings Robert Schaetzle This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. Joshua 1:8
Years of daily being in God’s word has given me many victories over my feelings and emotions. This is not to say that I have no emotions. If that were true, I would be like the Sphinx in Egypt, without the capacity to reason or feel concern. His Word has given me the ability to focus on the power of God’s presence, and authority over my feelings. This focus leads me peacefully through any circumstance I may encounter.
Many years ago when the rug was pulled out from under me, I had three choices. I could turn to thinking as the world does in anger, distrust, discontentment, fear, and hate.
My second choice was to turn to self and rest upon my own reasoning. Thus allowing my feelings, emotional uncertainties, and self-pity, to decide what avenue to follow.
A third option was given to me by a special friend and elder at our church. He led me back to the authority of God’s promises. Focusing on God’s authority and preeminence give me a greater understanding each day; “For he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4b
One’s feelings need not dictate our lives when we lean more upon our hope in God’s promises for things not yet seen.
