Impacting Love – Jennifer Woodley ‘Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.’ Philemon 1:7 (NIV)
Paul wrote to his companion Philemon claiming that Philemon’s love had impacted him deeply. Through his friendship, Paul had experienced joy and encouragement. Yet not only had Paul been refreshed by Philemon’s genuine care and hospitality, but so had many other believers, and this sharing of his love to many, blessed Paul even more.
Like cool, clear water that refreshes a weary walker on a hike, Philemon knew how to refresh fellow believers who may have been discouraged, tired or had lost their way. He was able to revive and restore his brothers and sisters in the faith. His love and warm hospitality had replenished and sustained them, giving them strength and hope for the journey ahead.
Philemon’s impacting love had far reaching results. He touched the hearts of many, encouraging them to keep going in their journey with Christ. How impacting is our love? Like Paul, can another give testimony to our hospitality, generosity and the deep regard we have shown to them and to others also? Are we a refreshing influence, impacting others for good or does our attitude and behavior add to the burdens they carry? Let’s resolve to replenish their heart by offering encouragement, sincere love and a helpful, willing attitude.
‘Heavenly Father, may your love working mightily in me, have an impacting, far reaching influence, as I willingly and faithfully avail myself to refresh others. Thank you.’
