Separation – Linda Simpson God knew our need for companionship when he created Eve to be Adam's helpmate. No one likes to be separated from loved ones. Death, divorce, job transfer, further education, immigration, imprisonment and hospitalisation are just a few examples of how people become separated.
When we immigrated to Australia years ago, though we believe we have done the right thing, there were consequences. We didn't have the support of family as our children grew up and our children missed out having a relationship with their grandparents, and vice versa. We were also not there to help care for aging parents, who have since died.
Being separated from loved ones, no matter what the situation, can lead to depression and loss of hope. However, we discovered there is one who understands and knows how we feel. His name is Jesus. He experienced the deepest loneliness when He died on the cross. When Jesus needed Him most, when all the sin of the world was on His shoulders, His Father, God, had to turn away from Him. It's impossible to imagine how He felt. But the good news is that by God's mighty power, He came to life again and is always reaching out to us with arms of love. We can testify to His love, strength and faithfulness over many years.
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NIV Romans 8:38,39)
What a wonderful promise. If you are feeling separated, or lonely today, call on Jesus, He will answer you.
