It Seems Like I Always Fail – Ken Ebright

“I mean you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourself; it was a gift from God it was not the result of your own efforts, so you can not brag about it.” Ephesians 3:8-9. (NCV)

It seems like I’ve always had a proficiency at failing. It started when I was in grade school. One subject I had trouble with was math. In my class, my teacher made it a rule that if you had more than three wrong answers, you had to go back and correct them until you had them right. The kids in school also picked on me and told me that I was a dummy. One day, my dad even told me that if I didn’t get better grades, I would end up being a dishwasher for the rest of my life.

Even as an adult, no matter how hard I try, it seems like I am always being told by my boss that I am doing something wrong. There are times when I feel that people talk down to me like I am the stupidest person on the face of the earth.

When I get told these things, it makes me feel like I am a failure. Thankfully, I have come to know that It doesn’t matter how much I fail by the world’s standards. The cool thing is that Jesus died for failures like me. I don’t need to pass some IQ test to earn his love. All I needed to do was to ask Jesus into my heart, and I will spend eternity with him in heaven. The world may not give me any grace, but the Lord Jesus does. That means I can laugh at all my failures in this world, because in heaven, it won’t matter.
