All You Weary Ones - Karen Pourbabaee “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry burdens, and I will give you rest.” Mathew 11:28 NLT
Jesus offered an invitation to all who needed Him, an unconditional welcome. It didn’t matter if you were Jew or Gentile, slave or free, peasant or royalty. Jesus was reaching out to the whole world. When he said Come, it was an expression of His compassion for all to come to Him as relief from oppression. From sin, sickness, emotional heartbreak, pain of all sorts. The things of life that make you just plain weary. That call remains today for all people.
The call of Jesus is not a call to a program or an institution. It is a call to Himself. He offers Himself as the solution to all that burdens us. He offers us rest for our souls, an amazing peace, through His unconditional love and forgiving grace. If you do not know Him, it is a call to believe in Him, a call to trust in Him. For believers, it is a call to follow Him as a committed disciple. For all, it is a call to turn from whatever you are depending on to Him.
What is burdening you now? Guilt, loneliness, illness, grief, depression, fear, anxiety, lack of meaning and purpose in life? A feeling that there is “something more” to this life? Jesus invites you to share those burdens with Him. He sees that you are so tired from life’s struggles. He feels the pain you bear. It is time to lay your burden down. He is ready to listen. He calls you to Come. He is waiting for you and promises rest for your soul.
