How Grace Defeated Sin in My Life Michael Edwards Maybe you have heard that too much grace will give a person a license to sin. You need to mix law with grace to balance it out. I believed this for years. I could not see how grace could stop sin in my life. I feared grace without a mixture or balance of law, would lead me to fall headlong, out of control, into sin.
The truth is, the too much grace will give you a license to sin line, is a lie straight from Satan. Mixing the law with grace robs us of the power of the gospel in our lives.
I now know from personal experience how grace defeats sin in a way I could never see before, and it is the law that arouses our Sin nature leading us into acts of sin, as scripture states. Most believers want out of sin and most try and do it man’s way by law-keeping through dead works of the flesh. These are dead works because a believer is immediately right with God by the blood of Christ.
Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, Heb 6:1 NAS
Most Christians are terrified of letting go of the Old Covenant laws completely. Like I was, Satan has them convinced they will fall deep into sin. I describe below, how abundant grace defeats sin in our life. This only happens by letting go of the Old Covenant ways totally, including the law of Moses and fully embracing His righteousness and the abundance of grace and truth Jesus brought us with the New Covenant. I no longer need to hold onto Jesus through law-keeping, He has me firmly in His grip.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand… John 10:27-28 NAS
