‘Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey’ (Is 59:15, NIV)
Satan’s army is in constant opposition with the Lord’s. God, the one who created us, has given us a free will to choose which way to go. If we choose to be in the Lord’s army, then Satan will be against us. This can bring attacks of temptation, opposition, frustration, depression, unhappiness, dissatisfaction, and other negative feelings into our lives. But all this can be overcome when we remain guarded by the word of God. A good soldier is the one who listens to his commander and does not always remain in the fear of going astray.
Our verse says that whoever shuns evil becomes its prey. Therefore, if you are trying to avoid evil, something opposed to the Word of God, there can be repercussions. There may be situations where you feel left alone or face strong opposition and negativity as you try to do what is right. If you are unable to figure out the reason for the opposition, it may be what this verse reveals. One of the ways Satan tries to get us to do his work is to make us feel left out and alone. This can lead us to self-pity and other ill feelings, unable to do anything for God.
The best way to overcome Satan’s tactics is to remain anchored in God’s Word and focused on Christ’s righteousness that is ours. Keep pressing on towards the blessings that God has for us, focusing on our gratitude for what God has provided, rather than what is lost or not received. We have a God of restoration. Just trust and keep pressing on.
