Nest of Hope - Karen Pourbabaee “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 KJV
It’s official. Each morning, all winter long, I contemplated the bird nest perched high atop a towering tree right outside my bedroom window. I knew one day it would no longer be visible. This morning, glassy green leaves obscure my view, as expected. I know the nest is there, and that’s all that matters. God is completing His personalized, illustrated sermon. Faith is knowing it is there, even if I can’t physically see it.
This barren basket waits, ever so patiently, for signs of activity, of new life. When mama bird lays her eggs securely in this nest of hope, she believes she will welcome new life within it. What expectant mama ever believes she would not see new life?! We, too, must make a deposit of hope. We, too, must believe if we want to see new life. We can envision what is unseen, the object of our hope, that which is upheld by faith. For faith is the substance or structure of what is hoped. Faith is the nest itself, which is the support or foundation for our hope.
Faith underlies, supports, and thus motivates visible action. But first, we must build that nest out of faith. What is the supplier of this building material? God’s Word. “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17 NAS) Build a sturdy nest from God’s Word. Let it motivate you to action. Keep moving, until one day you hear a songbird’s melody. It is the sound of rejoicing, for hope has given birth.
Lord, let me hear and build so I may rejoice in hope. Amen. Contact Karen and find more of her devotionals HERE. |
