Those Distractions – Ken Ebright
“A thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, but I came to give life—life in all its fullness. John 10:10 “(NCV)
The year my dad went to be with Jesus, I was overwhelmed by distractions from the enemy. Not only was I greatly affected by his passing, but out of town family came to visit, several things I owned broke and then it was Christmas. Although I didn’t stop my daily devotions or going to church, I allowed these distractions to keep me from intimate time with God and His presence.
Not taking the time to seek God’s wisdom and help, affected me in negative ways. As I became distracted by thoughts planted by Satan, negative emotions took over. Then, doing things in my own strength, fatal flaws like my temper hung out.
I knew from experience that when I ask God for help, I am able to get through tasks that are difficult while remaining calm. But when I am distracted and fail to ask for His help, things seem to pop up repeatedly and I find myself very frustrated.
We need to always remember a couple of things. Problems are going to show up in this sinful world and Satan is going to try and distract us from seeking God’ help. In the Bible, Jesus states that Satan comes as a liar and a thief whose only purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. To stop him from stealing our faith or our Christian witness, we need God’s power. We get God’s power when we pray and ask Him for His wisdom and help. Then we let the Lord’s wisdom destroy the enemies strong places and give us victory.
“We fight with weapons that are different from those the world uses. Our weapons have power from God that can destroy the enemy’s strong places. We destroy people’s arguments 2 Corinthians 10:4” (NCV)
