He Healed My Heart – Ken Ebright “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” Psalm 147:3 (NCV)
On my way to visit family in Minneapolis for Christmas in 2012, I encountered a traffic jam on I-80 in Iowa. I was concerned about being late to my sister's house and almost did not stop and see my stepmom. I was glad I did though, because I found out my dad had contacted her, and they were considering getting re-married. On the road that day, I cried on the way to my sister’s house.
I was very broken when my dad divorced my stepmom and left town for Nebraska. When he left after the divorce, I felt he abandoned me. What made it worse was he never stayed in touch with me. I thought I would never see him again and moved away from Minneapolis in 2000, broken hearted.
Finally, I was able to see my father for the first time in fifteen years on father’s day in 2013. I was glad to see him and felt like a wound in my heart had been repaired. Over the next four years, he would send me encouraging notes and letters when I went through a trial in my life.
We are all going to die someday, and I never expected for him to live forever on this Earth. He passed away on July 26, 2017. I feel this time he left me on a good note. I look forward to seeing him someday in heaven.
The Lord knows that I was hurting over the fifteen years my dad was gone, but I gave that hurt and pain to Jesus for healing. He wants to take your hurts and wounds too. He can heal them if you will simply place them in His hands.
