Which Robe Are You Wearing? – Harriett Ford God crowned Adam with glory and clothed him with honor. He lost both when he sinned.
The father of Joseph, a type of Christ, gave him a special coat. That caused his brothers to hate him, try to kill him, and dip his coat in animal blood to take to their father. Though Jacob believed his son was dead because of the stains on the coat, he lived to be reunited with Joseph in Egypt—a type of the resurrection.
Someone wove a special seamless robe for Jesus. Like Joseph, He lost that garment also. He was stripped naked on the cross.
Nakedness in the Bible always represents a loss of covering for sin. And like the first Adam, Jesus lost His covering when He became the sin of the whole world. His seamless robe? The sinners gambled for it.
We cannot come to the throne of Grace if we are wearing a robe of self-righteousness. We can only come in the seamless robe of Jesus’ righteousness, which is imputed to us by faith. We cannot come wearing Peter’s righteousness, or Paul’s. Or any other venerable person’s, because only Jesus shed His sinless blood to present to the Father for our sins (I Tim. 2: 5). Good news. Believers get to put on the robe of Christ's righteousness (Zech. 3: 4; Rev. 19: 13). They don't have to gamble for it and take a chance on losing it. It is a promise.
Father, I'm thankful for the robe of Christ's righteousness, because my own best works of righteousness are as filthy rags (Isa. 64: 6). I can come boldly in Jesus righteousness to the throne of Grace and receive mercy and help in time of need. Amen.
