Why Don’t They Like Me? Ken Ebright “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5 (NCV)
What did I do wrong? Kim, a man whom I rode the bus to work with, would not talk to me. I thought I had made a friend in Kim. We’ve had plenty of very cordial conversations in the past. But this time, when I tried to say “hi” to him, he just ignored me and continued to play his video game.
I also remember a time when I was a kid and made friends with a boy who I will call Ron. Sadly, his mother thought I would be a bad influence on him because my mom was an alcoholic. As a result, I lost a friend. That really hurt, and because we both attended Christian schools, I guess I expected more. I truly needed a friend at that time in my life.
Unfortunately, since we live in a fallen world, we all tend to be selfish, and people are going to snub us at times. When Kim and Ron rejected me, I felt hurt. All I wanted to do was to be their friend.
Jesus healed the blind, the deaf and loved the lost and hurting. But in the end, He got the ultimate snub as they nailed Him to the cross. He even had to suffer a much greater rejection when our Father had to forsake Him as he became sin for us on that cross.
On this Earth, we are all going to face rejection, but never from Jesus. If we accept Jesus into our heart, even though He knows all of our failures, He will be our friend forever no matter what happens. Jesus is the One who will never leave me or forsake me. That gives me hope.
