Living the Truth – Toni Babcock
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever." (Hebrews 13:8) Jesus never changes. Feelings do. That's why emotions can be moved by the truth - but they are not necessarily subject to, or led by the truth. They can deceive us. They can wreck our lives. Therefore, as people who know and love the Lord, we should determine to be led each day by the truth as it is in Jesus, not our fluctuating emotions. God wants us to be subject to the authority of His word, not the ebb and flow of unreliable feelings. It may be hard to admit, but being led by emotions can actually amount to being led by the flesh. We owe the life of the flesh nothing, therefore emotions should not claim the mastery over us. The Apostle Paul wrote, "Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." (Romans 8:12-14)
Well over a century ago the Reverend Andrew Murray wrote, "If I were favored this day with the visit of an angel - what a privilege I would count it. But Christ, the Son at the right hand, will not only visit, but will dwell in me. O my soul, rise to thy privileges: God speaks to thee in His Son."
Blessed privilege! Our privileges in the Son still stand, and He speaks the truth to us in his Word. Toni is the author of The Stoner Writer. She is also finalizing a book of her devotionals. Find her articles, books and contact information HERE. |
